Full Condition Survey

Luxury motor yacht Queen Bee docked at marina with enclosed flybridge and sleek white-and-blue exterior design

The aim of a Full Condition Survey, commonly known as a Pre-Purchase Survey is to identify and detail the yachts defects. It is tailored to each specific vessel and construction material through specific approaches and equipment.

The Full Condition Survey is recommended if:

  • You are buying a second hand yacht
  • Having your new yacht handed over after delivery
  • Or having your yacht returned after the end of contract with a Yacht Charter Company.

The Full Condition Survey is normally carried out once a new buyer has decided which yacht they want. If a new buyer is still undecided then the Appraisal Survey could be considered. This survey only gives a superficial overview of the yachts condition so it is always followed by a Full Condition Survey before any purchase.

The Full Condition Survey is a detailed survey to access the structural condition of a yacht as well as checking and testing the yachts equipment. The Full Condition Survey is carried out in three parts:

  • In water inspection
  • Sea trial then lift of the yacht (If Possible)
  • Followed by out of water inspection

Robs Marine Surveying carries out full condition surveys in accordance with internationally recognised codes of practice drawn up by the international surveying organisations. The inspection can be divided into the following areas:

Hull, Superstructure and Decks
Stern Gear
Skin Fittings
Cathodic Protection (Anodes)
Fastenings
Ground Tackle and Mooring Arrangements
Windows, Hatches and Port Lights
Handrails, Stanchions and Lifelines
Davits, Boarding Ladders etc.
Masts, Spars and Rigging & Sails
Machinery, Fuel and Electrical Installations
Bilge and General Pumping Installations
Gas Installations
Freshwater Installations
Toilet Installations
Lifesaving Equipment
Fire Fighting Equipment
Ancillary Equipment

For yachts up to 12 metres (40 feet) the survey can be completed in one full day, however it does depend on the type of yacht and the equipment onboard. For yachts over this length the survey can run over two or more days. Provided with the Full Condition Survey is a report highlighting any problems found during the survey, their level of importance and any recommendations for repair.
